A key priority for Capital Markets Malaysia (CMM) is to implement initiatives to build an ecosystem that leverages sustainable and responsible investment (SRI). As part of this strategy, CMM will lead and collaborate with strategic partners to establish regional centres of excellence (COEs), with the aim of accelerating the capabilities of Malaysia’s industry players in SRI.

The first of these is the formation of the Centre for Sustainable Corporations (CSC). CSC strives to build sustainable practices among public listed companies and to ensure that such entities raise funds in a sustainable manner. The COEs will provide a platform to develop expertise and position Malaysian corporates as sustainable investment targets for investors seeking opportunities in emerging markets.

The CSC’s capacity-building activities include workshops to showcase best practices on sustainable practices among companies, C-suite coaching sessions on reporting and engagement with institutional investors, an annual flagship event on sustainability and the role of corporate citizens, and study programmes for companies to familiarise themselves with the best practices in other countries.
